Magnesium Benefits

Do you have Anxiety/Depression, High Stress, Chronic Pain, Sleep Issues, Migraines/headaches, Fatigue, Infertility, PMS, High or Low Cholesterol, Arrhythmia/heart palpitations, Numbness/Tingling and Nausea, Pregnancy Nausea, Children that have insomnia or Growing Pains, Do You Crave Chocolate After Every Meal?? Any of these symptoms can mean that you are deficient in magnesium! Crazy right!

Many Americans are deficient in magnesium! This DIY tallow magnesium lotion is a great option for boosting magnesium levels. This will give you magnesium transdermal, which means it’s delivered through the skin. I would also encourage you to take a magnesium supplement orally or get as many foods rich magnesium foods as you can. That way you are attacking your deficiency internally and externally.

The foods with the most robust amounts of magnesium present are cooked leafy greens, bone broth, grass fed dairy, or cacao. As you can see, the list isn’t extremely long, so it is challenging to get enough through food alone. Using magnesium lotion is a convenient way to enjoy the benefits of topical magnesium while significantly reducing skin irritation. If you have tried magnesium oil you may have noticed it stings, burns and even itches with application. This lotion is designed to take out the uncomfortable sting while providing you with a boost of magnesium.

Why is Magnesium Important?

Magnesium is involved in over 500 processes in the body! To name a few, the body needs sufficient levels of magnesium for cell metabolism, producing energy, and regulating insulin. Furthermore, magnesium is the first mineral to be depleted when the body is under stress. I think we can all agree that we have stress in some way, shape, or form. So, some extra magnesium would likely be beneficial!

There are three options of getting magnesium in through the skin.

  • Magnesium oil

  • Magnesium lotion

  • Epsom Salt Baths or Soaks

Out of these options, my preferred method is lotion. I’ve tried simply rubbing magnesium oil on my skin, however, the magnesium oil was irritating my skin and dried it out. The oil itched and stung some days. I really like the idea of Epsom salt baths or foot soaks, but with our homestead, my time for baths is limited and I can’t remember the last time I got to have a good soak, plus in the summer, it’s too hot for that. Magnesium lotion is quick and easy to apply and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized and doesn’t burn or itch. It is best applied at night after a warm shower when your pores are nice and relaxed.

Benefits of Magnesium Lotion

Magnesium is vital for health, and unfortunately, many of us are no longer getting enough. As a cofactor for more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, it’s difficult to find a bodily function that doesn’t depend on magnesium in some way. Magnesium deficiency’s full range of effects are too numerous to mention completely, but the list above is a good start.

The research is still inconclusive on transdermal magnesium’s efficacy. But there are many anecdotal accounts of its benefits! Many people use magnesium lotion for sleep aid, stress relief, and relief from all kinds of pain. I do not claim that this lotion will cure or fix any disease, it is just an option for people to try a natural alternative to add magnesium to their bodies.

If you are unsure about adding topical magnesium to your routine, you should always consult your medical provider before implementing anything. Again, I do not claim this lotion will cure anything, but adding magnesium transdermal is a benefit to many. The amount of magnesium you would get from the lotion is not a high dose. It is safe for your whole family including babies and kids. It is my opinion that almost everyone could benefit from adding a bit of magnesium!
